# sk119301 - "IKE:Main Mode local machine configured not to respond to unknown IP addresses" error when using remote access VPN clients

## Symptoms

- * "IKE:Main Mode local machine configured not to respond to unknown IP addresses" error when L2TP connection fails on mobile phone.
* Key install log in SmartView Tracker: "IKE:Main Mode Sent Notification to Peer: invalid id information"

* Reject log in SmartView tracker: "IKE:Main Mode local machine configured not to respond to unknown IP addresses(i.e not exportable for SR and/or not included in the Remote Access community and/or no DAIP defined)"

* Error shown on the mobile device:  

  "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your setting and contact your Administrator"

## Cause

The gateway is not included in the Remote Access community.

## Solution

**Add the gateway to the "Remote Access" community.**

1. In SmartDashboard, goto the "IPSec VPN" tab.
2. Open the "RemoteAccess" community.
3. In participating gateways, click "Add�" and add the relevant gateway.

4. Push policy to the relevant gateway.
