# sk118087 - Low throughput for Microsoft DirectAccess clients using HTTPS when IPS is enabled

## Symptoms

- * With IPS enabled, Microsoft DirectAccess clients are subjected to a throughput loss.
* IPS Network Exception for all IPS protections on the DirectAccess server does not help.
* SecureXL connections information (`'fwaccel conns'`) flag the DirectAccess client connections as S (medium path, PXL).
* With IPS disabled, Microsoft DirectAccess clients are not subjected to any throughput loss.

## Cause

The rule that allows connections to the Microsoft DirectAccess server utilizes the default HTTPS service. The HTTPS service has a protocol type (inspection handler) of ENC-HTTPS:

The protocol type (inspection handler) means that any HTTPS connections will still be inspected, regardless of the IPS Network Exception. These connections will be flagged as S (medium path, PXL).
