# sk117212 - After failing over to the backup ISP and then back to the primary ISP, connections which started with the backup ISP will maintain until timed out or finished

## Symptoms

- After failing over to the backup ISP and then back to the primary ISP, connections which started with the backup ISP will maintain until timed out or finished.

## Cause

This is by design. The system is functioning as designed.

Primary/Backup mode connects to an ISP through the primary link, and switches to a backup ISP if the primary ISP link fails. When the primary link is restored, new outgoing connections are assigned to it, while existing connections are maintained over the backup link until they are complete.
