# sk116465 - Licensing on Spark Firewall

## Solution

On the Quantum Spark Appliances, the license is attached to the loop-back address and not the Management IP address.  

The license is based on the MAC address, and not the IP address. As a result, a loop-back IP address is used in the license file. All Quantum Spark Appliances (600/700/1100/1200R/1400/1500/1570R/1600/1800) work this way.  

You can apply an evaluation license on Spark Gateways, but it needs to be generated as local license and applied through CLI.  
Another workaround is to restore the gateway to the factory default and skip the license activation in the First Time Configuration Wizard.

In the absence of a license or region configuration, basic wireless range functionality is still supported.
