# sk116415 - Machine Authentication IP assignment using ipassignment.conf not working

## Symptoms

- Client machine do not receive the assigned IP address upon connection, after adding machine name to the `$FWDIR/conf/ipassignment.conf` file on the Security Gateway.

## Cause

Machine Authentication mechanism on Check Point VPN Gateways has a special syntax for working with Computer Certificates. The VPN Gateway must differentiate between Computer Certificates for Machine Authentication feature and ordinary Users Certificates. Therefore, specifying the computer DN will not work.
