## Symptoms

- * SmartEndpoint GUI shows the Endpoint Security Policy Server as "`Not Active`".

* Endpoint Security Clients are connected to the affected Endpoint Security Policy Server.

* *$UEPMDIR/logs/server_messages.log* (In Windows: *%UEPMDIR%\\logs\\server_messages.log*) file from Endpoint Policy Server shows:

  `[Date Time] ERROR - Failed to establish a connection with SIC Tunnel. Reason: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out`  
  `
  [Date Time] ERROR - Failed to open SIC-HTTP connection. Error message "Failed to establish a connection with SIC Tunnel. Reason: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out`  
  `
  INFO - Finished synchronizing with EPS server.`
