# sk115214 - Traffic initiated from a VSLS Virtual System in "Backup" state does not get a response from its destination

## Symptoms

- In VSX Load Sharing (VSLS) mode, traffic initiated from a Virtual System in "Backup" state does not get a response from its destination.

## Cause

In VSLS mode, all Virtual Systems are running in one of the following states:

* Active
* Standby
* Backup (with 3 and more VSX cluster members)

By design, Virtual Systems in "Backup" state are not synchronized with the corresponding Virtual Systems in Active and Standby states.

Therefore, when the response traffic is received by the Virtual System in "Active" state, it is dropped as out-of-state.
