# sk115212 - ClusterXL fails over due to pnote Interface Active Check on Non-Monitored interface

## Symptoms

- * ClusterXL initiates a failover from the given member to the peer member.

* */var/log/messages* file on the given member (that initiated a failover) shows:  

  `fwha_report_id_problem_status: Try to update state to FAILURE due to pnote Interface Active Check (desc ethX interface is down, member N (Z.Z.Z.Z) has more interfaces - check your disconnected interfaces configuration in the discntd.if file);`

* ethX is configured as a Non-Monitored interface in the ClusterXL topology, i.e., should not cause a failover.

## Cause

By the current design, the given cluster member compares the number of its interfaces in the "Up" state until the count reaches the number of interface that were reported as "Up" by the peer member (the number of interfaces in the "Up" state must be identical on all cluster members).

When the given cluster members finds there is an interface "missing" in this count, it goes over all its interfaces and looks for an interface in the "Down" state (on which CCP packets were not received / sent in time). If it finds a Non-Monitored interface first, its name will be printed in the */var/log/messages* file.

This is misleading.
