## Symptoms

- * Output of the '*df -k*' command shows that the root (/) partition is at 100%.

  Or that the /dev/mapper/vg_splat-lv_log partition is at 100%.
* The '*du* ' command does not find which files are consuming the space (e.g., "`du -hcx --max-depth=1 / | sort -n -r`", "`du -hcx --max-depth=1 /var | sort -n -r`", "`du -hcx --max-depth=1 /opt | sort -n -r`").

* The '*find / -type f -size +50000k -exec ls -lh {} \\;*' command does not find which files are consuming the space.

## Cause

A process running in the background is keeping one (or more) large **deleted** file(s) opened.
