## Symptoms

- * VPND CPU usage at 95-100% for a few minutes during/after policy installation
* In *VPND* debug during policy installation the follow lines are shown:
  match_user_ip_to_rule_and_collect_groups: group
  is_relevant_rule: check rule no. XXX
  match_user_ip_to_rule_and_collect_groups:
* Remote Access user traffic is dropped for several minutes following policy install: fw_log_drop_ex: Packet proto=6 x.x.x.x:56349 -\> y.y.y.y:80 dropped by vpn_inbound_tagging_ex Reason: check_userc_tables returns -1;

## Cause

**Environment:**

* Gateway is defined as a Remote Access Gateway.
* Legacy LDAP Groups are used and configured in the rulebase and there is a large number of them (more than 150).

During Policy installation, the *VPND* process reloads the VPN policy and matches all of the user rules to the existing connected users. The combination of the number of users and number of rules that have a legacy LDAP group in the source increases significantly the *VPND* queue (tasks to do), and as a result *VPND*consumes high CPU.

The impact can be experienced as one (or a combination) of the following:

* Latency/traffic loss to VPN traffic
* Remote Access disconnections
* IKE negotiation failures
* Remote Access authentication failure
