# sk112457 - "Authentication Failure" to certain machines even though Username and password are correct

| Property | Value |
|----------|-------|
| Solution ID | sk112457 |
| Date Created | 2016-07-27 |

| Versions | R82.10, R82, R81.20, R82.20 |

## Symptoms

- * User receive authentication failure when connection to a log server or SmartEvent machine, while to other machines they can connect normally using the same username and password combination.

* FWM debug shows:

  `
  [FWM 11647 4036429712]@RV-FW-LOGGING-101[19 Mar 15:20:07] internal_auth_pass(au=e2587ab0): start`
  `
  [FWM 11647 4036429712]@RV-FW-LOGGING-101[19 Mar 15:20:07] internal_auth_pass: cpconfig admin pw check`
  `
  [FWM 11647 4036429712]@RV-FW-LOGGING-101[19 Mar 15:20:07] cpsc_get_msg_by_id: Cache HIT for CPSC_INTERNAL_ACCESS_DENIED
  `

* Administrator exists locally on the machine to which you are unable to connect (perhaps configured via cpconfig) and can be seen using the following command:

  `
[Expert@Hostname]# psql_client cpm postgres "select objid from userbase_data where dlesession=0 and name='USERNAME' and not deleted;"`

* As per [sk110894](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk110894), " Administrators that are configured in R77.xx SmartDashboard cannot manage the R80 SmartEvent Server." After installing the R80 Jumbo HFA, or the new R80 image (replaced on July 3rd, 2016), administrators that are configured in R77.xx SmartDashboard can manage R80 SmartEvent.

* Users that were configured via cpconfig menu cannot be removed via cpconfig menu.

## Cause

The admin user exists locally on the machine and therefore the machine will not try to query to primary database \\ system domain for the user, and attempt to match the user against the local one. This will cause an authentication failure

This solution requires authentication. Please log in to view the full solution.
