# sk110757 - Proxy ARP configured using $FWDIR/conf/local.arp, upon restoring from backup onto new machine, specifies old machine's MAC Address

## Symptoms

- If Proxy ARP is configured using *$FWDIR/conf/local.arp* , when restoring from backup onto new machine, *local.arp* specifies old machine's MAC Address.

## Cause

* If *$FWDIR/conf/local.arp* has been configured manually, the file will be restored as-is on the new gateway.
* If proxy-ARP has been configured in CLISH through the use of *MAC address* (for example) - *add arp proxy ipv4-address 172.30.1.50 macaddress 00:1c:73:ff:ff:fe*   

  Then, old MAC address is retained when DB is restored on new machine.
* If proxy-ARP has been configured in CLISH through the use of *interface name* (for example) - *add arp proxy ipv4-address 172.30.3.3 interface eth1*   

  Then, MAC address will be retrieved from interface, and consequently changed on new machine.
