# sk110339 - Output from console cable is unreadable

## Symptoms

- Output from console (RJ45 to DB9) cable is unreadable - contains random characters.

## Cause

While some serial consoles can work with the "minimal" 3-wire console cable, some others require the CTS and RTS wires which are not always implemented in the newer models of USB to DB9 adapters, so even if you have it in the console cable - RJ45 to DB9, the signals do not work.

## Solution

1. Try another USB to Serial adaptor (even if the old one worked on 600 device).  

2. Use the USB cable instead. 700 appliances have a built-in USB port which can work as console.
