# sk110334 - Authentication in E80.xx clients fails for user names that contains diacritical marks / umlaut characters

## Symptoms

- * Authentication in E80.6x+ clients fails for user names or passwords that contains [diacritical marks / umlaut characters](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaeresis_(diacritic)) (e.g., `e? / a? / a?`).

* Authentication in E80.4X / E80.5X clients for the same user names / passwords succeeds.

## Cause

Encoding was changed in E80.60 to support UTF-8.

In some scenarios, there is a need to revert to the previous behavior where the credentials were sent to the gateway in ASCII encoding.
