## Symptoms

- * Policy installation and SmartView Monitor report that a Trial License for a specific blade will expire in "x" days.

* Plug n Play trial license date is blocking activation of valid contract/license for any service or feature blade.

## Cause

Enabling some software blades in SmartDashboard/SmartConsole without installing a license will automatically create a trial license for a specific blade. Some products that generate a software trial license include:

* Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)
* Anti-Bot (ABOT)
* Anti-Virus (AV)
* Anti-Spam (ASPM)
* Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
* URL Filtering (URLF)
* Mobile Access (MOB)
* Compliance (COMP)

These (PNP_BLADE) trials can usually be confirmed if you run the *cplic print* command from CLI on the specific server or appliance. For example you may see:

**PNP_BLADE_URLF:V1:trial CPSB-URLF**

or **PNP_BLADE_ABOT:V1:trial CPSB-ABOT** or**PNP_BLADE_IPS:V1:trial CPSB-IPS**

## Solution

Trial licenses are deleted when the regular license for the same product is installed on the same object. Using the examples above, for example, installing a license that includes CPSB-URLF or CPSB-ABOT in the features would disable the trials for these products. This can be confirmed if the PNP_BLADE_xxx disappears from the *cplic print* output.

For Service Blades, it may also be necessary to install an updated Service Contract file from the UserCenter if this has not already been completed and reflected in the "Contract Coverage" section of the *cplic print* output.

To download the Service Contract File:

1. Log into <https://usercenter.checkpoint.com/usercenter/index.jsp>
2. Click "Assets/Info".
3. Click "Download Contract File" under "Tools" option.
4. In the section titled "Service Contract File Download", select the Account(s) you need your Service Contract File for.
5. Select "Email File" or "Download Now".

To install the Service Contract File via SmartUpdate:

1. Log into SmartUpdate
2. From the menu , select "Licenses \& Contracts", select 'Update Contract \> Import File'
3. Browse to the directory where the file is located and click 'Open'
4. The file will be added to the respective certificate key
5. To verify the file has been installed properly, run 'cplic print' on the Security Gateway, and you should now see the contract information.
