# sk108190 - Can Bonjour traffic be passed between subnets on the firewall using PIM?

## Symptoms

- There is a need to pass Bonjour traffic between subnets on the firewall and this is not working with PIM.

## Cause

[Bonjour](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonjour_(software)) uses multicast traffic on 224.0.0.251.

Multicast addresses 224.0.0.0 to 224.0.0.255 are designated for multicasting on the local subnetwork only. Routers must not forward these messages outside the subnet in which they originate.

**Consequently, Bonjour cannot be "routed" using PIM.**
