## Symptoms

- * The processes in MDS context fail to start on freshly installed Multi-Domain Server or Multi-Domain Log Server on Smart-1 Appliance.

* Running "*mdsstat*" command returns no output.

* The *$MDSDIR/conf/LeadingIP* file and *$MDSDIR/conf/mdsdb/mdss.C* file are missing.

## Cause

An interface on Smart-1 appliance other than ***Mgmt*** has been configured to be the Leading interface. During the installation on Smart-1 appliance, the software assumes the *Mgmt* interface will be used for this purpose and attempts to configure it as the Leading interface. If the *Mgmt* interface does not have a properly defined IP address, then the configuration process cannot complete properly and the Multi-Domain Server / Multi-Domain Log Server will not start.
