## Symptoms

- * Output of "*ntpstat* " command in Expert mode returns:

  `Unable to talk to NTP daemon. Is it running?`

* Output of "*service ntpd status* " command in Expert mode shows that *ntpd* process is running.

* Output of "*netstat -anp \| grep ':123'* " command in Expert mode shows that *ntpd* process is listening on UDP port 123.

* Restarting the *ntpd* process with "*service ntpd restart*" command in Expert mode does not help.

* "`ntpd[`*PID*`]: sendto(<IP_ADDRESS>) (fd=-1): Bad file descriptor`" appears repeatedly in */var/log/messages* file.

## Cause

*ntpd* daemon was started from Expert mode and not from Gaia Clish / Gaia Portal.
