# sk106497 - Delay between user name and password prompts when log in to the gateway via SSH

## Symptoms

- When trying to log in to the gateway via SSH, there is a delay of 5-15 seconds between the user name and password prompts.

## Cause

The delay is caused due to SSHD service that by default performs reverse DNS lookup to the client's IP address.

This test is done right after entering the user name and if the DNS server does not answer fast or at all, SSHD will wait for the timeout expiration, until moving to the password prompt.
