# sk105947 - 1GB copper SFP using IGB 4.1.2 or 2.4.3 driver does not negotiate speed/duplex after reboots or interface down/up

## Symptoms

- * After rebooting the appliance, the 1GB copper SFPs interfaces that use IGB 4.1.2 (and also IGB version 2.4.3) driver lose connection and are reported as 'DOWN' by the *cphaprob -a if* command.

* The */var/log/messages* file shows:

`kernel: igb 0000:XX:XX.X: Detected Tx Unit Hang `
  `
kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: ethX-XX: transmit timed out`
* The *ethtool* command returns for the problematic interfaces:

  *Speed: Unknown!
  Duplex: Unknown! (255)*
* Unplugging the cable and then plugging it back SFPs resolves the issue only temporarily - until the next reboot.

## Cause

This issue can be related with Check Point SFP transceivers as well with 3rd party SFP transceivers.

Only genuine Check Point SFP transceivers are supported on Check Point appliances.

The issue resides in a part of the NIC driver code, which performs the genuine check of the SFP transceivers.

## Solution

[Contact Check Point Support](http://www.checkpoint.com/services/contact/index.html) to get a Hotfix for this issue.
A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing the Hotfix.
For faster resolution and verification please collect [CPinfo](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk92739) file from the involved Check Point appliance.

**Important Note:** This hotfix replaces the current driver with the driver that does NOT perform the genuine check of the SFP transceivers anymore. However, still only genuine Check Point SFP transceivers are supported.

**Hotfix installation instructions:**

1. Hotfix has to be installed on ***machine running Gaia OS***.

**Note:** In cluster environment, this procedure must be performed on *all* members of the cluster.
**Note:** In Management HA environment, this procedure must be performed on *both* Management Servers.
2. Procedure:

   * Using CPUSE on Gaia OS:

Refer to [sk92449: CPUSE - Gaia Software Updates (including Gaia Software Updates Agent)](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk92449#How to work with CPUSE):
     * Section "[(4-A-c)](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk92449#How to work with CPUSE - How to download and import a CPUSE package - Import instructions for Offline procedure - Gaia Portal)" / "[(4-A-d)](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk92449#How to work with CPUSE - How to download and import a CPUSE package - Import instructions for Offline procedure - Gaia Clish)" - refer to import instructions for *Offline procedure*
     * Section "[(4-B-a)](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk92449#How to work with CPUSE - How to install a CPUSE package - Installing a Hotfix package / Minor Version package)" - refer to installation instructions for *Hotfixes*

**Note:** Machine will be rebooted automatically.
   * Using Legacy CLI on Gaia OS:

     1. Transfer the hotfix package to the machine (into some directory, e.g., */some_path_to_fix/*).

     2. Unpack and install the hotfix package:

        ***\[Expert@HostName\]# cd /some_path_to_fix/***
        ***\[Expert@HostName\]# tar -zxvf SecurePlatform_\<HOTFIX_NAME\>.tgz***
        ***\[Expert@HostName\]# ./SecurePlatform_\<HOTFIX_NAME\>***
**Note:** The script will stop all of Check Point services (*cpstop*) - read the output on the screen.
     3. Reboot the machine.
