# sk104761 - 'confd' process consumes CPU at high level on Gaia OS due to large size of Gaia Database (/config/db/initial_db)

## Symptoms

- * Gaia machine does not respond to SNMP requests, and */var/log/messages* file repeatedly shows:  

  `snmpd: Error: Timeout waiting for response from database server`

* Gaia Cloning Groups can not be synchronized.

* Output of "*top* " command / or "*ps auxw* " command shows that "*confd*" process consumes CPU at high level on Gaia OS.

* The user is not able to log in to Gaia Portal - after entering the credentials, the icon spins forever, and Gaia Portal never loads.

* During boot process, following error seen:

  Starting cp_pm_rl3: Error communicating with \^pm\^ over \^/tmp/pmwiresock\^: Timeout waiting for response from database server.

## Cause

Each change made in Gaia Clish or in Gaia Portal is saved under a revision in the Gaia Database - /config/db/initial_db file.

Once this file becomes large, *confd* process consumes more CPU to read from this file, or to save new data to this file.
