# sk104646 - Unable to use  "<" and ">" in Pre-shared Key for site to site VPN or L2TP

## Symptoms

- GUI prompted error in password when using the characters \< and \> in Preshared secret.

## Solution

This feature is not included in the product. If you need it, please submit a [Request for Enhancement](https://www.checkpoint.com/rfe/login.htm).

**Note:** Currently, the "Configuring VPN Sites" section in the ([Check Point 1100 Appliance Locally Managed Administration Guide](https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/R77.20.80/1100_1200R_1400_LocallyManaged_AdminGuide/html_frameset.htm)) states on page 86:

"**Pre-shared secret** - If you select this option, enter the same password as configured in the remote gateway and confirm it. You cannot use these characters when you enter a password or shared secret: { } \[ \] ' \~ \| ' " # + \\

This statement does not include the characters \< and \>. This will be corrected in newer versions of the document.
