# sk103963 - Gaia IP Broadcast Helper does not forward Directed Broadcast traffic

## Symptoms

- * Gaia IP Broadcast Helper was configured per [sk98810](http://supportcontent.checkpoint.com/solutions?id=sk98810), but Directed Broadcast traffic is not forwarded.

* SmartView Tracker does not show any drops of Directed Broadcast packets.

* Traffic capture with *TCPDump* on the incoming interface of Security Gateway shows the Directed Broadcast packets.

* Traffic capture with *TCPDump* on the outgoing interface of Security Gateway does not shows any forwarded Broadcast packets.

* Traffic capture with *FW Monitor* shows:  
  1. Broadcast packets go through Pre-Inbound ("i") and Post-Inbound chain ("I")
  2. Broadcast packets go through Pre-Outbound ("o") only (no Post-Outbound chain ("O"))
* Kernel debug ('`fw ctl debug -m fw + drop`') does not show any drops of Directed Broadcast packets.

## Cause

By design, IP Broadcast Helper does not support forwarding of broadcast packets to broadcast IP address. Gaia IP Broadcast Helper forwards only UDP packets and only to specific servers (in Unicast).
