# sk102504 - "Command Line Option syntax error" during Security Management server installation on Windows

## Symptoms

- * During Security Management installation on Windows OS the following error appears:   

  "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) Command Line Option syntax error. Type Command /? For Help"  

* While you can click past this error and it appears the product completes install, the product fails to start.

## Cause

If the short filenames for The Program Files and Program File (x86) directories have been removed, portions of the Security Management Server can fail to install.

## Solution

Verify if short file names have been removed.   
To do so, open a command prompt and do a directory listing as follows:

*dir C:\\ /ad /x*

If "Program Files" folder is listed as "*PROGRA\~*" then the short names have not been disabled.

It is recommended to install Check Point products on a server where ShortNames have not been disabled.

A workaround can be to install Security Management server into a directory where shortname has not been disabled. For example, create a directory called *C:\\CP_Install*and install into that directory.
